When we started really thinking about Sell-Thru.AI back in the second half of 2024, our point of view was that AI had gotten to the point of maturity where we could now leverage it to build something really impactful for specialty retail operators, something that was “AI-first” in terms of the experience and how it functioned to provide rapid operational insights and recommended actions.
Sell-Thru.AI is a natural AI extension of the field hardened Robling specialty retail data and analytical foundation.
Now you may ask, what makes the team at Robling uniquely positioned to do this. Well, for starters the team at Robling – which is the same team that is now at Sell-Thru.AI – has decades of retail operational analytics expertise, starting with founding and running QuantiSense for 14 years, then founding and running Robling in 2018. Our team has extensive specialty retail knowledge as a result of over 60 implementations of standard retail data model and field-hardened analytic components, all of which are absolutely necessary to effectively configure semantic IQ and train AI agents and analysts. And perhaps most importantly, we realized that through our experience and work at Robling, and at QuantiSense prior to that, we had already built much of the core foundation needed for an AI-first future.
What do we mean by this core foundation needed for an AI-first future? The way we think about it, Sell-Thru.AI is a natural AI extension of the field hardened Robling specialty retail data and analytical foundation. At Robling, we have already done a lot of the necessary hard work on this core foundation starting back in 2018 – we understand the ecosystem of speciality retail data sources, we have built (and can build) the connectors to those data sources, we have the data lake and data transformations figured out, we apply our own field-hardened specialty retail data model.
Then we bring all of that retail intelligence fabric together in the form of a single-table, specialty retail data mart designed to simplify BI, KPI, and now AI workflows. This specialty retail data mart is built to encode decades of specialty retail business logic into a consolidated model. It unifies disparate retail data sources into a single-table structure for fast analytics and now Sell-Thru.AI reasoning, and provides a consistent, governed “truth layer.” It is the foundation both for Robling’s long-standing BI analytics offerings and now for Sell-Thru.AI. Importance of Specialty Retail Semantic IQ
What have we been hard at work doing with Sell-Thru.AI since the end of 2024? This is depicted at a high-level in the Sell-Thru.AI portion of the above diagram. We have been working hard on building out and refining a specialty retail semantic IQ, which is absolutely critical for AI analysts and agents, and then we have been working on training and tuning Sell-Thru.AI to in essence take various versions of the same question and provide you with the same answer every time you ask. And perhaps more importantly, we have been working on training Sell-Thru.AI go even further, to know your role and to know you as an individual over time so that it understands you and how you operate in order to be able to proactively tell you what you need to know, before you ask.
You yourself may ask – what is so important about semantic IQ? This is the critical piece for AI – the grounded and encoded specialty retail analytic knowledge (metrics, labels, descriptions, hierarchies, natural language LLM markers) purpose built for trustworthy AI.
